iNtrmzzo , until 2006 under the name Intermezzo , is an a cappella comedy group of four from the Netherlands.
history
iNtrmzzo was founded in 1984 as a five-part ensemble under the name INTERMEZZO . The five founding members Ronald Becker, Evert Bandringa, Stijn van de Loo, Mathijs Overmars and Iek de Vos got to know each other during their time together at the Utrecht Conservatory . In the same year the ensemble had their first program and their first appearances in the Netherlands, followed by an international tour, new programs and CD releases in the following years. In 1998, however, Evert Bandringa and Stijn van de Loo left the group, whereupon Merijn Dijkstra and Etienne Borgers stepped in. But only two years later Mathijs Overmars left INTERMEZZO; since then they only consist of four singers. In the meantime, the group has received various awards in competitions.
Between 2003 and 2005 there was a big break: three of the four members turned to their personal ideas, after which only Merijn Dijkstra remained. He was looking for a successor and was able to win Wouter Hamel, Wouter Kronenberg and Clemens Schmuck as new singers in 2005. Hamel left the same year because of a record deal, his replacement was Jeffrey Zudhy, who was recently replaced by Tjidde Luhrs. In 2007 the name was changed to iNtrmzzo .
In the almost 20 years since it was founded, the ensemble has already released several CDs and performed show programs. The style has always changed a lot and fluctuated between comedy, pop, reinterpretations of well-known pieces and experimental sounds.
