The Invision Power Board or the new IP.Board (or IPB for short) is one of the best-known systems for web forums . It is developed and distributed by Invision Power Service. It is based on the PHP programming language and uses either MySQL , MSSQL or Oracle as a database . To be able to use this software, you need to purchase a license. Anyone interested can request a demo of the IP.Board and the IP.Board components using a form on the website.

history

Invision Power Services (IPS) was founded in 2002 by Matt Mecham and Charles Warner after the two left the Jarvis Entertainment Group (who developed the Ikonboard ). Their first product was the Invision Power Board (IPB), which quickly gathered a community of former Ikonboard users.

Version 1.x

The first versions of Invision Power Board were offered for free download under a proprietary license. The last version released under these conditions was Invision Power Board 1.3.

Version 2.x

Version 2.0.0 was released under the same license terms as version 1.3.1. Although the developers originally claimed that the forum would remain free, in 2004 the release of free versions for non-commercial purposes ended: A downloadable trial version of the Invision Power Board 2.0.0 Release Candidate (RC) version 1 and 2 was released before the finished version has been released for public use. It was then replaced with a free demo, with restrictions on 5000 posts, 1000 threads , 200 members, and other restrictions that consequently ended the developers' claims that the IPB will always be free. Many users were upset about this and blamed Mecham for copyright infringement . On July 1, 2005, the demo was reduced from 15 days to 5 and a few months later it was reduced again to 24 hours. The period of use is currently 5 days, but this can be extended if necessary.

Version 3.x

Invision Power Board version 3.0.0 was released on June 25, 2009.

Version 4.x

IP.Board 4.0 is published as a module for the IPS Community Suite. With the move, Invision Power Services Lifetime and Perpetual license holder breaks the contract to receive updates and upgrades for the IP.Board for life.
