The IPE KW.1 Quero-Quero was a glider produced by the Brazilian Industria Paranaense de Estruturas (IPE) .
history
The aeronautical engineer Kuno Widmaier designed a glider that first flew on December 18, 1969 under the designation KW.1a . The prototype attracted attention from the start, so José Carlos Boscardim acquired the prototype and the production rights for his company, Industria Paranaense de Estruturas . After extensive tests, several adjustments were made (KW.1 b1) in order to increase series production and flight performance. Further improvements followed, so that the current aircraft (KW.1 b2) was ready for series production.
At that time, the Brazilian Department of Aviação Civil was looking for a new glider to equip the Brazilian aero clubs. Several designs were examined, KW.1 promised the best performance and was therefore selected.
construction
The KW1 is a single-seat glider designed as a shoulder-decker with a conventional tail unit. The hull in half-shell construction is made of wood. The wings consist of a wooden structure, the middle part of which is covered with plywood and the rest is covered with fabric. The cockpit is located in front of the wings and has a one-piece hood. There is a larger wheel under the fuselage and a small one at the stern.
variants
- Quero-Quero II - A further developed variant with a new tail unit and retractable main wheel. At least one copy was built.
- KW.1 GB - 1985 the IPE designer Francisco Leme Gaivão proposed an improved version of the Quero-Quero in order to be able to hold its own in the 15 m class. The dimensions were similar to the Quero-Quero II . Two copies were built.
- Falcon - Wolfram Gabler and his father Eberhard Gabler created a modernized version with a different wing profile, new wing ends and cockpit from a KW.1 fuselage in 5600 working hours from 1978. The Falcon first flew on October 15, 1982 and was very successful in competitions. Only one copy was built.
- Super Quero-Quero - Another version, with a new cockpit, different wing and fixed wheel. Two copies built.
