IS-6 (tank)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The IS-6 was the prototype of a heavy tank for the Soviet Army. The plans for this vehicle were drawn up in the design office of the Chelyabinsk Kirov factory from December 1943 to summer 1944. A special feature of this tank project was the use of an electromechanical drive concept, which made direct power transmission with a gearbox superfluous. Further development and construction of the first prototype took place in the Uralmash plant.
