Turn of the year

Under turn of the year or the year is generally understood as the period of a few days in which a calendar year draws to a close and a new year begins. It's the transition from one year to the next.

The old year is bid farewell with fireworks - the new is also welcomed.

In a narrower sense, it is the point in time at which the date line between two years is exceeded, i.e. midnight between the last day of the previous year and the first day of the new year.

In western cultures , the turn of the year usually affects the days around New Year's Eve and New Year's .
