According to the international standard ISO 13406-2 , LCD screens have been classified according to the following criteria:

  • Luminance , contrast and color measured by the direction in which the observer is looking
  • Reflections and contrast in incident lighting
  • Image build-up time
  • Defects ( pixel errors )

ISO 13406-2 has been withdrawn since June 2006 and replaced by the ISO 9241 series of standards . In pixel class 1, errors may already occur in this.

Overview of pixel error classes according to ISO 13406

The numbers mentioned relate to one million pixels. For a common 19 inch LCD with 1280 × 1024 pixels, the values ​​have to be multiplied by approx. 1.3, i.e. H. 2.6 defective pixels are allowed in class II . In class II , 6 defective sub-pixels are allowed (3 sub-pixels = 1 pixel) or, according to error type 3, even 7 defective sub-pixels (5 × 1.3 = 6.5 rounded up 7).
