ISO 14044

The ISO 14044 is a summary of the existing ISO standards 14041 to 14043, and deals with the issue of ecological balance .

A complete life cycle assessment according to the ISO 14040 standard (current edition: 11.2009) includes the following elements:

  • Definition of goal and scope of investigation (scope), ISO 14040
Environmental management - life cycle assessment - principles and general requirements
  • Life cycle inventory analysis, ISO 14041
Environmental management - life cycle assessment - definition of the goal and the scope of the investigation as well as life cycle inventory
  • Impact assessment, ISO 14042

  • Evaluation, ISO 14043

On June 30, 2006 the second edition of ISO 14040 and the new ISO 14044 were published. The latter summarizes the previous individual standards ISO 14041 to 14043. Together with the new ISO 14040, ISO 14044 represents the standard for an ISO-compliant life cycle assessment. The aim of this revision of the series of standards was to simplify the series through summary, and thereby improve readability. The content remained largely unchanged. The change A1 appeared in May 2018.
