ISO 19109 Geographic information - Rules for application schema is the standard within the ISO family of standards for geographic information that defines the rules for creating application schemas. It has also been available as the German DIN EN ISO 19109 since September 2006 .
ISO 19109 is based on a general model for technical information (General Feature Model), the properties of which are specified in the standard. On this basis, principles for the definition of specialist information and specialist objects (features) are described.
In addition to describing the general modeling process, special rules are given for:
- the creation of application schemes in UML
- the creation of profiles of standardized application schemes for specific areas of application
- the use of metadata schemas
There are also
- Time rules
- Spatial rules
- Rules for creating data catalogs
- Rules for establishing spatial reference through referencing using geographical identifiers (e.g. postcodes)
