The ISO - Standard ISO 3732 "Road vehicles - connectors for the electrical connection of towing and towed vehicles - 7-pole plug connector type 12S (supplementary 12 volts) for vehicles with a 12 V rated voltage", the technical specification for 7-pole additives describes connectors for trailer sockets as part of trailer hitches .

execution

The additional plug is designed in white and has a mechanical coding that differs from the N variant in order to avoid mix-ups. It is used to provide additional contacts such as the connection for reversing lights, which has to be provided since January 30, 2011, permanent plus and switched plus, which cannot be provided in the type 12N connector (12 volt nominal) according to ISO 1724 due to the fully occupied contacts.

distribution

This additional plug was mainly used in Great Britain; Since September 1, 2008, the 13-pin connector according to ISO 11446 , which has been in use elsewhere since the late 1980s, has been used there as well, which combines the plug-in connections of type 12N and type 12S .

connection

The plugs are to be connected according to a predefined numbering. The digits are arranged around the edges. The numbers specify the function of the connected line. The characteristic color of the insulation is informative and can vary. Raised or recessed numbers are common on or in the connector housing near the contacts; sometimes these are simply printed on.
