The ISO - Standard ISO 1724 "Road vehicles - connectors for the electrical connection of towing and towed vehicles - 7-pole plug connector type 12 N (normal) for vehicles with a 12 V rated voltage" technical specification describes 7-pole connectors for trailer sockets , as a component of towbars .

Other designs

This must be distinguished from the 13-pin plug according to ISO 11446 , which is currently common throughout Europe, and the white, 7-pin trailer plug according to ISO 3732 for providing additional contacts such as permanent positive, switched positive and reversing lights.

connection

The plugs are to be connected according to a predefined numbering or according to the assigned function. The digits are arranged like in a round plug. The cable colors are informative, not binding. Only the numbering clearly defines the function. Usually the numbers are printed on or in the plug and socket housing near the contact, in the case of better quality they are depressed or raised.

Valid standard

The currently valid edition of the standard has the edition date November 2003. Earlier editions were from 1980 and 1997. There is no national adoption as a DIN standard .

Since January 30, 2011, all new or re-registered trailers with a gross vehicle weight of more than 750 kg ( EC vehicle class O2 or higher) must have a functioning reversing light. The contact required for this cannot be provided by the 7-pin plug connection according to ISO 1724. This means that an additional plug connection according to ISO 3732 or a 13-pin connection according to ISO 11446 must be installed.
