Actual recording

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The as -is recording or as -is analysis is a term from project management . It represents the phase of a procedural model that serves to objectively identify a current problem ("current situation") - if possible without evaluation or distortion. The evaluation takes place in the subsequent phase of the actual criticism . Since an actual recording is usually time-consuming and costly, options are sought to minimize this effort.

The option, known as the waiver thesis, does not record the current situation on the grounds that knowledge of the status quo can do little to solve the problem. The waiver thesis consciously accepts the risk of a non-feasible solution.

The compulsory thesis, on the other hand, declares the actual state to be indispensable. The actual recording must deliver results that are as high-quality and meaningful as possible with the least possible effort, especially costs.

The methods available - with increasing cost intensity - are document analysis (secondary survey) and the various methods of the primary survey :

It is important to collect extensive data on the selected area without neglecting the goal of the project ( target state ) and not to make the actual recording more extensive than necessary. Accordingly, a trade-off can be seen here: On the one hand, a too simple, superficial assessment of the current situation means that possible problems cannot be uncovered. On the other hand, too precise a survey can lead to the fact that, due to too much data received, one is no longer able to recognize the underlying problems of the organization (“You can't see the forest for the trees!”) Or too much time with the Collection of insignificant data loses.

Sources of the actual recording are provided by employees and managers but also files, invoices, letters, etc. The contents of the actual recording can be, for example, working times, throughput times, waiting times, costs or the time at which the work was carried out and the like. The content will always depend on the organization and the cause of the analysis.

Various forms of diagrams , lists, a decision table or an information flow plan and everything that is suitable for presenting the result in the best possible way are suitable for displaying the results. Particular care must be taken here to present the essential information so that the problems and conflicts of the existing system are always in view in the further phases of the process model.
