Ian Brockington

Ian Fraser Brockington (born December 12, 1935 ) is a British psychiatrist .

Life

Brockington is the son of Colin Fraser Brockington , a well-known British medic. Ian trained as a cardiologist and then went to Nigeria, where he completed his work on cardiomyopathy , this work formed the basis for his doctoral thesis Heart muscle disease in Nigeria .

On his return he decided to go to Maudsley Hospital to train in psychiatry . He developed a keen interest in the nosology of psychiatric diseases. He went to Chicago as a visiting professor, where he published several works on the nosology of psychiatric disorders in collaboration with RE Kendell and HY Meltzer. He went to lecturer at Manchester University and was quickly given a chair at the University of Birmingham . By this time he had already developed an interest in postpartum psychiatric disorders and was one of the founders of the Marcé Society , 1990, and the founder of the Women's Mental Health section of the World Psychiatric Association . With Ramesh Kumar, he published two volumes, Motherhood and Mental Illness, and Motherhood and Mental Illness, Causes and Consequences .

His book Motherhood and Mental Health was published in 1996 and he recently published two more books - Menstrual Psychosis and Eileithyia's Mischief , named after the ancient Greek goddess of childbirth and obstetrics, Eileithyia .

He is also known for his hobby, the restoration of a Tudor farmhouse.
