Ibachsmühle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ibachsmühle was a grain mill (pearl barley mill) on the Pleßbach in today's Sprockhövel in the Ennepe-Ruhr district . At times, the Ibachsmühle and the neighboring industrial companies and houses with the Ibachsmühle train station were connected to the Bossel – Blankenstein small train. (The almost 10 km long route through the Hammertal connected the stations Bossel on the Hattingen – Wuppertal railway line and Blankenstein on the Ruhr valley railway.) Today Ibachsmühle is only a small district in the Sprockhövel district of Niedersprockhövel.

history

The steel smith Peter Ibach built a Hammer-Kotten at the Pleßbach around 1675. Thanks to its favorable gradient and its abundance of water, this stream drove various hammers, a grinding dump and a grain mill over the course of time. The name of the steel smith, who comes from Remscheid, is derived from the local Ibach, a tributary of the Morsbach. In Sprockhövel, his family name turned into a river name: the Pleßbach is also known as the Ibach. In 1717 the Hammer-Kotten came into the possession of the Sprockhöveler Armenkasse. The building, which dates from the 17th century, was replaced by a successor building, the oldest hall name of which was 'Im Hammer', later 'Am Ibach' and today the address is 'Im Siepen 17'.

The Ibachsmühle was a grain mill, it was also known as the Hiddinghauser Mahlmühle, Pottkämper Mühle, Mühle unter dem Pottkämpe. In 1720 the mill was a royal privileged mill. It never belonged to the Ibachs, but from 1739 was leased by the Krone to the Schulten family Trinthamer / Leveringhaus, later to Henrich Adam Spennemann, nephew of Henrich Rudolph Trinthamer. It was named after the body of water that once drove it. In 1841 the mill was sold by the Krone to Ferdinand Leveringhaus. In 1844 he installed a steam engine in the mill (the first in Sprockhövel). In 1940 the interior of the mill was scrapped. The mill pond, which was destroyed by bombs in World War II, was filled in.
