The Pleßbach flows from Haßlinghausen through the Hammertal to the north and flows into the Ruhr at Blankenstein .
The local mining trail Pleßbachweg is named after this brook.
Surname
The Pleßbach got its name from the Pleßmann farm in the lower Hammertal, through whose meadows it flowed. Eversmann calls it the Hiddinghauser Bach .
Geographical location
In Haßlinghausen, the stream rises 226 meters below the site of the former Germany mine .
The brook found its way to the Ruhr in a geological fault through the layers. The tributaries and Siepen buried in the soft clay layers feed the stream with their water.
The Obere Lauf was previously named Kreftingsbecke after the farmer's meadows through which it flowed . This name only refers to the tributary stream that comes from the Krefting farm.
The Obere Lauf meanders along today's Autobahn 43 and then finds its way into the Hammertal. Here it turns north and along the former Bossel – Blankenstein railway and numerous old tunnels. Hammer und Schleifkotten, he turns west at the stone house and finds the Ruhr below Blankenstein Castle .
Mining
Since the stream cuts through the layers of coal, excavations for the coal were carried out on its slopes early on. The stream is therefore closely linked to the history of coal mining.
Some tributaries have dried up due to mining. Some dilapidated tunnels have taken over the function of drainage.
One example is the Stock & Scherenberger Erbstollen . It follows the course of the Pleßbach.
Hydropower
In the past, the water power of the Pleßbach was also used to drive water wheels.
