Ibrahim Bahr al-Ulum

Ibrahim Bahr al-Ulum ( Arabic إبراهيم بحر العلوم, DMG Ibrāhīm Baḥr al-ʿUlūm ; * 1954 ), a Shiite , was Iraq's oil minister .

Life

He is the son of the highly respected Shiite cleric Muhammad Bahr al-Ulum from Najaf . He holds a PhD in oil engineering from the University of New Mexico and has worked on oil projects in the UK , US and North Africa.

From September 2003 to June 2004 he was Oil Minister in the Iraqi Governing Council . In the new Iraqi government , he is also oil minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari . Apparently he has a good relationship with the United States.

Shortly after his appointment, al-Ulum promised to focus his efforts on increasing oil production. He also wants to make efforts to alleviate the fuel shortage in Iraq.
