from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ich, der Robot , also Ich, der Roboter , (English title I, Robot ) is a novel published by Isaac Asimov in 1950 , which combines nine short stories with one another through a framework plot. The individual stories appeared in various science fiction magazines between 1940 and 1950. The German first edition came out in 1952 under the title Ich, der Robot by Rauch-Verlag.

The book is considered a classic of science fiction literature. In the contained narrative Runaround , Asimov's three robot laws are postulated for the first time.

content

The framework consists of an interview between the narrator and the main character Dr. Susan Calvin, a robot psychologist who works for the leading manufacturer of robots , US Robots. In a review of their lives, Calvin describes the development of the robots, which is told chronologically in nine short stories. The author describes the problems, fears and the philosophical and moral questions that arise from the existence of robots that differ less and less from humans and are even superior to them in many respects. At the same time, it also shows the strengths and weaknesses of humans compared to robots.
