The Ichari Dam is located on the Tons River in the Himalayas on the border between the two Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand .
The dam, located 26 km above the mouth of the clay in the Yamuna , was completed in 1974. The barrier structure forms a 155 m wide and 59.25 m high (foundation height) gravity dam made of concrete. The total storage space is 8.93 million m³, of which 5.11 million m³ are usable storage space. The water is fed from the dam to two hydropower plants connected one behind the other, which operate in so-called “tandem operation” and have the same expansion flow.
Chibro hydroelectric power station
At the dam, the water is fed to the Chibro hydropower plant via a 6.2 km long inlet tunnel . The Chibro hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) is located 17.5 km below the surface of the Ichari Dam. It was put into operation in 1975. It is designed for a flow rate of 200 m³ / s and has four Francis turbines of 60 MW each. The fall height is 110 m. The water is fed back into the river.
Khodri hydroelectric power station
The intake structure of the Khodri hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) is located a few meters below the Chibro hydropower plant. The water is fed to the Khodri hydropower plant ( ⊙ ) via a culvert and a 6 km long pressure pipe . This is located on the right bank of the Yamuna above the Dakpathar barrage - 2 km below the Tons estuary. The power plant was commissioned in 1984. It has four Francis turbines of 30 MW each. Due to structural circumstances, the actual maximum power generation is only 83 MW. The fall height is 57.9 m.
