Idylls

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Idyllen is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 95). The work was performed for the first time on June 13, 1851 in the Volksgarten in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was composed for a summer night festival planned for June 6, 1851. Due to bad weather, the concert was postponed twice until it could finally take place on June 13th. The work was enthusiastically received and had to be repeated three times. The press coverage in the following days was also very good. In the last part of the waltz, Strauss quotes the folk song O Mädchen mein unter'm Hollerstock . In September the printed work was published as the first Strauss waltz by his new publisher Haslinger.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 7 minutes and 18 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
