Isenay (1793-1801 with the spelling Ysenay ) is a French municipality with 98 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) and to the Bazois Loire Morvan community association founded in 2016 .

geography

The municipality is located on the Aron west of the Morvan Mountains, about 35 kilometers east-southeast of Nevers . The Canal du Nivernais with three locks runs parallel to the Aron in the municipality of Isenay. The predominantly flat to slightly undulating landscape shows an alternation of fields, meadows, smaller forest areas and hedges. The Isenay municipality includes the villages of Les Denays, Baudin, Les Malcives, La Bretonnière, Bourg Joly, Le Mousseaz, Les Tremblats, Mazille and L'Orsil, as well as other hamlets and individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Isenay are Limanton in the north, Vandenesse in the northeast, Montaron in the southeast, Thaix in the southwest, Saint-Gratien-Savigny in the west and Montigny-sur-Canne in the northwest.

Economy and Infrastructure

Eleven farms are located in the Isenay municipality (mainly cattle and horse breeding).

Isenay is located away from the nationally important traffic routes. The D37 trunk road runs from Château-Chinon (Ville) to Cercy-la-Tour to the east of Isenay . 35 kilometers west of Isenay there is a connection to the A77 autoroute . The train station in the small town of Cercy-la-Tour, four kilometers away, is on the Nevers - Chagny and Clamecy - Gilly-sur-Loire lines .
