Arleuf is a French municipality with 746 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) and to the community association Communauté de communes du Haut Morvan .
geography
Arleuf is located around 66 kilometers east of the city of Nevers and around 24 kilometers northwest of the small town of Autun in the east of the Nièvre department. The municipality is located within the Morvan Regional Nature Park .
In addition to the village of Arleuf, there are numerous hamlets and farmhouses scattered across the municipality. The pond Étang d'Yonne lies on the western border of the municipality on the D177 .
history
The municipality has been settled for a long time. This is evidenced by the remains of a theater from the Gallo-Roman period (2nd / 3rd century). The place was first mentioned by name in 1317 under the name Arido Loco . In the Middle Ages Arleuf was fiefdom of the Seigneurie de La Tournelle and until 1789 part of the Duchy of Burgundy. The mechanization of agriculture and the lack of industry led to heavy emigration in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The community belonged to the Château-Chinon district from 1793 to 1801. In addition, from 1793 to 1801 it was the capital of the canton of Arleuf. Since 1801 the community has belonged to the canton of Château-Chinon (temporarily: Château-Chinon (Ville) ). In 1870 Arleuf ceded part of the municipality to the new municipality of Fâchin .
