Montapas is a French municipality with 288 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville) and the canton of Château-Chinon (until 2015: canton of Saint-Saulge ).

Montapas is about 63 kilometers south-southeast of Auxerre and about 30 kilometers east of Nevers . Montapas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Maurice in the north, Mont-et-Marre in the east and north-east, Châtillon-en-Bazois in the south-east, Alluy in the south and south-east, Rouy in the south and south-west and Saint-Saulge in the west and north-west.
