- The Talleyrand-Périgord family owned the Seigneurie Vandenesse from 1781 to 1883
- Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) gave some characters the name Vandenesse in his Comédie humaine : Charles de Vandenesse in La Femme de trente ans (1834), Félix de Vandenesse in Le Lys dans la vallée (1836) and Marie-Angélique de Vandenesse in Une fille d'Ève (1838).
