Kai Schäfer

Kai Schäfer (born June 13, 1993 in Darmstadt ) is a German badminton player . He has been playing in the 1st Bundesliga at SC Union Lüdinghausen since the 2017/2018 season .

Career

Kai Schäfer started playing badminton at BV Darmstadt at the age of 9. After he went to TV Dieburg at the age of 12, he moved to SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil in the Oberliga Mitte in 2009. With the club's first team, he was promoted to Regionalliga Süd in the first season and in 2011 to the 2nd Bundesliga South. Two years later, he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga. After winning titles in Hesse and Southwest Germany, he was German youth champion in men's singles from 2009 to 2012. With the German U19 team, he won gold at the European Championships in 2011. At the German Championships in Bielefeld in 2018, Schäfer reached the final in the men's singles, in which he only had to admit defeat.
