If You Want to Be a Bird , also known as Bird Song , is an American folk song by the Holy Modal Rounders , which appeared in 1968 on the album The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders and also on the live album Bird Song : Live 1971 is included. It was written by Antonia Duren .

Notoriety

The song gained notoriety because it was used in the 1969 film Easy Rider in a humorous scene with Jack Nicholson . On the soundtrack for Easy Rider , the song is included in fifth position, after Wasn't Born to Follow by the Byrds and before Don't Bogart Me by The Fraternity of Man .
