Iglica

Iglica is a needle-shaped structure in Wroclaw , Poland . The ensemble of Iglica and the Centennial Hall is one of the landmarks of the city.

history

Iglica was built in 1948 according to a design by the engineer Stanisław Hempel and was originally 106 meters high. It is a reminder of the 1948 exhibition in Breslau on the " Regained Western Territories ".

Initially, mirrors were installed on the tower which, when illuminated, were supposed to provide light effects. They were destroyed in a storm on July 20, 1948. Her remains were removed by two student climbers in October 1948.

Since 1964 the height of the partially dismantled tower is only 90 meters. In 2016 the Iglica was renovated and given a new coat of paint. For this purpose it was turned in the direction of the formerly covered steles.
