Life

Ignasi Calvet Esteban was born on January 17, 1948 in Barcelona. As the oldest of five siblings, he soon had to go to work to support himself and his four siblings. At times he worked in the international sales department of the Spanish publishing house Bruguera . In his spare time he took drawing lessons. He then received an offer to do an internship in the publishing house's artistic department.

From 1973 the draftsman worked in a bank, but soon he could hardly save himself from orders for drawings. As a result, he decided to set up his own business and created, among other things, "Kater Felix" for Bastei and war comics from Fleetway . He also worked with spy and Fix-and-Foxi comics for various publishers.

In 1980 he received his first order from Egmont Verlag , which was immediately followed by six more. In 1981 Esteban finally joined Josep Tello González's studio , where he still works today.

Style and role models

Esteban's role model in storytelling is Carl Barks , while he admires González for his background motifs. He also likes Paul Murry because he is “able to make even the most complex seem very simple.” His style is also strongly influenced by these draftsmen.
