Ikos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Ikos is in the liturgy of the Eastern Churches ( Orthodox churches and Eastern Catholic Churches with the Byzantine rite ) a short song which, like the Kontakion chants between the longer songs of Akathistos and the gun is inserted.

The Ikos is the Kontakion following verse that the salvific event usually more extensively about as the Kontakion. More extensive liturgical prayers of the Eastern Church usually consist of a sequence of ikos and condacion.
