Illustrated cycling sport

The Illustrierte Radrenn-Sport was a sports magazine that appeared independently in Germany from 1921 to 1935.

The magazine Illustrated racing sports (Illus) was founded in 1921 in Breslau and quickly took the monopoly as a cycling magazine, which until then since 1895 appearing cycling world had held. The cycling world got into financial difficulties and was finally closed in 1922. One reason for the illus' immediate popularity was that, in contrast to Rad-Welt , the magazine was richly illustrated and more modern in layout ; the verbal contributions took into account the development that cycling was a popular public sport. In 1923 Erich Kroner became editor-in-chief and the editorial team moved to Berlin. The magazine appeared weekly on Tuesdays. Among the employees were Sigmund Durst and Heinrich Stockmann .

In 1933 Kroner was replaced as editor-in-chief because of his Jewish origins, and Fredy Budzinski was his successor . Budzinski had to leave the Illus after a year because he was married to a "non-Aryan" woman. 1935 was Illus brought into line , in which he with the official organ of the Cyclists' Federation Germans (DRV) was merged. The new magazine appeared from then on under the title Der Deutsche Radfahrer - Illustrierter Radrenn-Sport . In September 1944 the magazine was discontinued.

The illus was published by Deutsches Sportverlag , owned by Kurt Stoof . After the Second World War , the publishing house moved to Cologne, where Stoof published the magazine Radsport and other sports magazines from 1950 .
