In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning is a pop song by David Mann (music) and Bob Hilliard (text) from 1955.

history

The song was first popularized by the 1955 recording of Frank Sinatra , released as the title track of his album In the Wee Small Hours (which was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1984).

An instrumental version by JJ Johnson & Kai Winding was recorded as early as 1955, and by Hazel Scott the following year . Singers like Morgana King , June Christy and Ella Fitzgerald covered the song as did The Hi-Lo’s . The song developed, also through interpretation by Ben Webster with Oscar Peterson , Johnny Hodges , Curtis Fuller and Art Van Damme to the jazz standard .
