Inborn Power

Inborn Power is a sculpture in Magdeburg's old town .

It stands on a pedestal immediately north of the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament and belongs to the Magdeburg sculpture park . The 76 cm high plastic made of white concrete was created in 1970 by René Graetz .

Inborn power to German about Natural Power , is an abstract work and is a natural force embody. The sculpture, which is vaguely reminiscent of a cat, is described as a “structure of biomorphic three-dimensional elements”.

Graetz, who had previously created concrete figurative representations of humans, orientated himself in this work on the abstract work of Henry Moore , whom he had met 25 years earlier and developed his own work even further. He broke with his previous work, sought and found a form language that was completely new to him. The English title of the work, which is unusual for a work created in the GDR , symbolizes this development, which is unusual for sculptural works in the GDR.
