Inch Clutha is a large, flat island in the Clutha River Delta on New Zealand's South Island . It is located downstream from the town of Balclutha and is about 10 km long and 3 km wide.
The fertile land, which is threatened by flooding, is used intensively for agriculture.
The name of the island is derived from the Scottish Gaelic language : innis means "island" and Cluaidh is the Gaelic name of the Scottish River Clyde .
