Indian ice hockey league

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Indian Ice Hockey League is the highest ice hockey league in India .

history

Ice hockey has been played in India since the 1980s. Due to the lack of artificial ice, the ice hockey program of the Indian Ice Hockey Association focuses primarily on the northern states and there especially on the Indian part of the disputed Kashmir region , where natural ice can be played on due to the cold winter climate. One of the founders of ice hockey in India is the Indian army stationed on the border with Pakistan , which takes part in the national championship with its own teams, as does the border police. After there had already been numerous local tournaments before, the national championship was officially held for the first time in 2005 by the Indian Ice Hockey Federation.
