Surname

The name Indreabhán is probably a metathetic form of inbhearán , a derivation of Ir. Inbhear (dt. River mouth) and means something like "place with river mouths". The sound form Indreabhán has also been influenced by the name idir dá Inbhir ("between two estuaries"), which is no longer common today .

language

As in the neighboring Baile na hAbhann, the colloquial language is the Connacht dialect of Irish. Therefore only the Irish name Indreabhán has official status.

The Coláiste Uí Chadhain summer college is located in Na Mine and one of three campuses of the Coláiste Chamuis summer college is located in An Tulach . Many students from all over Ireland spend their summer holidays here to improve their Irish language skills while staying with native speaking families.
