history

At the request of the merchants to establish a chamber of commerce, the Prussian Ministry of the Interior approved the establishment of the Nordhausen Chamber of Commerce on January 12, 1858. At first she was only responsible for the Nordhausen district. Elections took place in January 1859 and the Chamber was constituted on March 5th. It consisted of 20 members. The Prussian Chamber of Commerce Act of 1870 put the chambers on a new legal basis. On December 13, 1872, the Nordhausen Chamber of Commerce was reorganized accordingly. From April 1, 1873, the chamber area comprised the cities of Nordhausen, Benneckenstein, Bleicherode and Ellrich, the district of Sangerhausen including the counties of Stolberg-Stolberg and Stolberg-Roßla, and from the Landdrostei district of Hildesheim the district of Honstein.

After the seizure of power by the National Socialists and the recent DC circuit IHK Nordhausen. President Kranz was ousted from office, the chamber was reorganized according to the Führer principle and the self-government of the economy abolished. Ernst Tropus became the new president. In 1942 the chamber lost the rest of its independence and was incorporated into the Halle-Merseburg Gauwirtschaftskammer. After the end of the Second World War, the IHK was re-established in 1946. With the dissolution of the states and the establishment of districts in the GDR, the activities of the IHK were ended in 1953 and transferred to new structures of the GDR Chamber of Commerce and Industry .
