Heinrich Hermann Hanewacker (born November 2, 1845 in Nordhausen ; died February 22, 1922 in Nordhausen) was a German manufacturer, city ​​councilor , honorary citizen of the city of Nordhausen , Prussian councilor and member of the state parliament.

Life

Hermann Hanewacker was born in Nordhausen as the son of the chewing tobacco manufacturer Georg August Hanewacker. He and his three brothers (Adolph Friedrich) Rudolph, (Georg Wilhelm) Adolph and (Paul August) Hugo worked in their father's chewing tobacco factory GA Hanewacker after graduating from school . When her father died in August 1870, the trading company was passed on to the seven grandchildren of the company's founder Georg Andreas Hanewacker († 1867). Hermann and Adolf took over the business. Since Adolf died in 1879, Hermann brought his two younger brothers into management.

Under his leadership, GA Hanewacker became one of the largest chewing tobacco factories in Germany. He was also actively involved in city life and held numerous honorary positions. What should be emphasized here is his significant contribution to the development of the municipal savings bank .

From 1881 to 1922 he was chairman of the Nordhausen Chamber of Commerce , and from 1912 to 1918 he represented Nordhausen as a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Prussian Province of Saxony .

Since 1909 he was a city councilor and worked on the finance committee, in 1910 he received the title of "Royal Prussian Council of Commerce". On October 3rd, 1917 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Nordhausen due to his charitable work and his foundation for the 100th anniversary of the chewing tobacco factory . Hanewacker donated considerable sums for public buildings, for its workers and for charitable purposes.

Hermann Hanewacker was married to Johanna Heidenreich. As a result of an accident, he died unexpectedly on February 22nd, 1922. The Chemiker-Zeitung read: “Kommerzienrat Hermann Hanewacker, one of the leading personalities in the German tobacco industry, died on January 22nd in Nordhausen at the age of 75. “His three-winged grave of honor is in the Nordhausen main cemetery.
