Infinity speakers

Infinity (English: "Infinity") is a US company in the field of entertainment electronics, which mainly deals with the development and manufacture of loudspeakers and loudspeaker systems. The name and the company logo refer to the mathematical concept of infinity .

Infinity was founded in 1968 in a garage in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles by Arnold Nudell , a nuclear physicist and musician, as well as Cary Christie and John Ulrich . The trio knew each other from the time they worked at Hughes Aircraft . The company has been part of the Harman International Group since 1982 .

Infinity was considered innovative for new developments. The first self-developed Servo Static 1 loudspeaker left the well-known loudspeaker designs in 1968. It had an external crossover network and a bass speaker with a motion detector that was separate from the main speakers. The breakthrough in the hi-fi and high-end sector came in 1978 with the successful "Reference Standard" series, which reached its peak between 1981 and 1986.

In 1987 the “Reference Standard” series was replaced by the no less successful “Kappa” series.

The brand's flagship, the Infinity “Reference Standard Mk5” (also IRS MkV), was of particular importance. This system was at times considered the most expensive and for many to this day the best loudspeaker in the world. Between 1980 and 1988 there were five model generations under the brand name Infinity , after Nudell founded the new brand "Genesis" in 1991, he published the successor in 1993 under the name "Genesis One".

The two models "Renaissance 80" and "Renaissance 90" were the first models developed by Cary Christie alone. The "Beta" and "Gamma" models became classics from 1987–1993, the "Renaissance 90" and "Renaissance 80", "Epsilon", "Sigma" and "Omega" models were the last representatives of the classical design philosophy. The "x.1" and "x.2" models built from 1994 to 1998 follow changed building principles. However, with filled polypropylene cones for bass and bass-midrange drivers and large polypropylene dome for the midrange drivers, they have the classic features of the “Kappa” series. In contrast to the older "Kappa" and "Reference Standard" models, the tweeter is not a magnetostat with a straight membrane membrane (EMIT), but a version with a round membrane (EMIT-R).

In addition to home speakers, the company's current product range also includes audio systems for the car hi-fi sector.
