Info dialog

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An info dialog (also: info window or about box ) is a dialog window that makes statements about the software itself and its developer (the company or the person).

Content

The info dialog usually contains the following information:

  • a graphic element, e.g. B. a picture or an icon of the program
  • the version ID of the program
  • the name of the software and the company that developed it, e.g. B. Microsoft Word from Microsoft or Ubuntu from the Ubuntu Foundation , or the names of the people involved in the development, if the software was not developed by a company in the usual sense
  • Information on patents and copyrights and, if necessary, license information as well as information on software used for development or patents from other manufacturers, e.g. B. Drivers or middleware with the associated license
  • Information on any installed plug-ins and their origin or their developers.

layout

The design of the info dialog is reserved to the developer or a graphic designer commissioned by him . In addition to the start screen , an info dialog can contribute to the visual impression or even the identity of the software.

The design of info dialogues is sometimes different, depending on the taste of the developer and increasingly also the corporate design of the software series or the company producing it. Occasionally, programs rely on animation or music, with large, often commercial products, the dialogs are mostly static and contain graphic elements as well as information about the software and its development in text form. If the program offers unexpected functions (so-called " Easter Eggs "), these are often hidden in the info dialog.
