The information technician's trade includes the areas of activity of the former radio and television technician and the former office information electronics technician. The designation information technician is only used by the masters in this trade , the training occupation and thus also the designation as a journeyman is information electronics technician . The English term for the "master in the information technology trade" is "Master Information Technician"

Areas of activity

Information technology masters are mainly active in the following areas:

  • Advising customers on installations and purchasing hardware installation / configuration
  • Training of apprentices in both fields of the training occupation information electronics technician.
  • Sale of the above devices and software packages.
  • Installation, setup and repair of IT networks at the customer. This includes, for example, antenna systems, video and security systems, telephone systems and data networks.
  • Support of customers with software problems, as well as administration of networks .
  • Managing a company ( marketing , accounting, controlling, training, human resources, etc.).

However, it should be noted here that due to the origin of the profession, some of the companies are still heavily specialized in their previous professional areas (radio and television technology or office technology). Only a few really offer the full range of professions at the moment.

Training opportunities

As a master craftsman, there are further educational opportunities: The advanced training course in business administration (HWK) is the highest level of training in the skilled crafts, which ends with a Germany-wide recognized advanced training examination at the Chamber of Crafts. The aim of this management-oriented advanced training course is to prepare foremen, managerial staff and the next generation of managers for changes - from increasingly complex operational processes to market-driven decisions - in small and medium-sized companies. Therefore, the focus of this course is on practice-oriented further education so that the business economist (HWK) is able to perform business management functions, to adapt operational processes and structures to changed market conditions using modern management techniques and to operate appropriate personnel development.

With the acquisition of the master's title, it is also possible to study at a technical college (e.g. electrical engineering).
