Infusion technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Infusion technology is a sub-area of medical technology . Infusion technology is understood to be apparatus-based techniques that are intended to apply fluids into the human body. They are used when infusion by gravity or by hand using a syringe is not possible.

A distinction is made between infusion pumps and syringe pumps . Infusion pumps convey the liquids to be administered from a storage container via a roller pump or peristalsis so that the liquid is transported in a closed system in order to avoid contamination during the infusion. Syringe pumps are used for the automated delivery of a drug via a syringe. The delivery accuracy is higher with syringe pumps than with infusion pumps. The latter, however, allow higher funding rates.

According to the Medical Devices Act, infusion devices are declared as active medical devices .
