Initiative for climate and environmental protection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Initiative for Climate and Environmental Protection (IKLU) is a special facility set up in 2008 for climate and environmentally relevant investments in developing countries. It is administered by KfW Development Bank on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). IKLU grants loans primarily to state sponsors, but in individual cases also to private sponsors, whereby KfW borrows market funds, the interest rates of which are reduced by IKLU funds. The poorest developing countries receive grants. According to the BMZ, between 2008 and 2011 at least 2.4 billion euros will be made available through the IKLU. IKLU emerged from the special facility for renewable energies and energy efficiency created in 2005.
