The food company ICA Sverige had around 1,300 sales outlets in Sweden in 2016. The group currently has more than 7,000 employees. After that nothing comes, then Coop and Axfood come with around 17-18 percent each."

history

ICA goes back to 1917 by Hakon Swenson in Västerås , founded Einkaufsgemeinschaft Hakonbolaget that independent grocers should bring the same economies of scale in purchasing, as they have chain stores. Many other purchasing groups were founded on the same principle as Hakonbolaget. The actual ICA AB was formed in 1938 through a merger of several of these purchasing groups. In 1940 ICA Förbundet, the membership organization for ICA retailers, was founded. Originally this association had no shares in ICA AB, but he rose to become the majority shareholder until 1972. In 2000 half of the company was sold to the Dutch company Royal Ahold . In the meantime Ahold had increased the share to 60%, but completely separated from it in 2013. Since then, the listed ICA Gruppen AB (previously Hakon Invest) has been 100% owner.
