The internal filter is used in the aquarium hobby to treat the aquarium water. It filters suspended particles and visible impurities from the water and any toxins contained in the water are broken down by microorganisms living on the filter material . An internal filter is often part of a complete aquarium package for beginners because it is easy to use.

Filter type

With this type of filter , the entire filter is located inside the aquarium. The water flows through a suction opening into the filter, where it is pumped through various filter materials of different sizes and then returns to the basin through the vent. Depending on the manufacturer, different filter materials are offered, in the case of internal filters these are usually foam, fleece or special filter floss.

use

The internal filter is mainly used in small and medium-sized tanks; for larger aquariums, an external filter with a higher filter capacity is necessary. One advantage of the internal filter is that it usually costs less than the external filter. Internal filters have a very quiet, if not silent, operating volume and lower power consumption than external filters. However, you have to accept a visual impairment, as the filter can be seen in the pool. Many aquarists cover the filter with plants and decorations in such a way that it is almost invisible. One of the disadvantages is that when the filter material is removed, some of the dirt filtered from the water sinks back into the basin. This is not the case with an external filter.
