The Innsbruck Mountain New Year's Eve was first launched in 1994 by the City Councilor for Tourism, Rudi Federspiel . Every year the organizer is Innsbruck City Marketing.

Around 25,000 people annually visit this spectacle in Innsbruck's old town with music, food and shows. The local population, including guests, especially from Italy, celebrate the New Year with fireworks on the Seegrube on New Year's Eve . From Waltherpark, directly on the Inn , the city is organizing a fireworks display that, with 5000 rockets and costs of 20,000 euros, is one of the largest in western Austria.
