Inoue Masakichi

Inoue Masakichi ( Japanese. 井上 政 吉 ; * January 18, 1886 in Kyōto Prefecture , Japan ; † April 7, 1975 ) was a Lieutenant General of the Imperial Japanese Army .

Life

Inoue Masakichi was born in Kyoto Prefecture and graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1908 . From 1933 to 1935 he was in command of the Tsu Military District before becoming the commander of the 6th Infantry Regiment. In 1936 he took over command of the 3rd Regiment of the Imperial Japanese Guard .

After the Second Sino-Japanese War began , Inoue was transferred to the 5th Division, in which he had previously served. But although he was officially serving in the division stationed in China, he was in command of the Sendai Army Elementary School and the 36th Infantry Brigade in Japan until early 1938. Only then was he transferred to China, where he held various staff positions at the headquarters of the Kwantung Army . On November 6, 1939, he became commander-in-chief of the 23rd Division and was ordered to rebuild the division, which had been almost completely destroyed in the Battle of Chalchin Gol . He held this post until March 1, 1941, when he retired.

Due to the poor war situation in the Pacific War , Inoue was recalled to active service in 1945 and took command of the Toyama Army Infantry School until the surrender of Japan . After the end of the war he retired. After his death in 1975 he was buried in the Tama cemetery near Tokyo .
