Inquisit

In Switzerland, prisoners on remand were referred to as inquisites . These were detainees who have not yet been finally convicted. In many official reports in Switzerland in the 19th century, the term is sometimes used as a synonym (in alternating use) for "remand prisoner". “Inquisit” should not be confused with the term “ police convict ”: This was understood to mean prisoners who received a short sentence lasting a few days. B. had to serve because of begging and other harassment. Police convicts could be detained without a court order due to the cantonal police laws.
