In public administration, a report is the communication from a subordinate to a superior (superordinate) authority .

General

The word comes from the Middle High German "beriht" for "communication, instruction, contract". From 1522 it appeared for the first time in the sense of notification. The activity involved in preparing the report is called reporting .
