To the center

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the center is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 387). The work was performed for the first time on July 22, 1880 in the Vienna Prater .

Remarks

The waltz was composed for the shooting festival in 1880 and was premiered there under the direction of Eduard Strauss . The name is derived from the target when shooting and drives the shooter to hit the center (of the target). Strauss musically outlines the course of a shooting festival. Both from the side of the shooters and from that of the guests. The work contains elements of folk music, represented by harp and zither and Viennese waltz music. Hits on the target are represented by a drum roll. As a result, the work disappeared from the concert schedule. The waltz later returned to the concert program. It is still played occasionally to this day.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 59 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
