Passenger accident insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Personal Accident Insurance provides in contrast to the general accident insurance coverage for accidents which the insured person to an insured during legitimate use motor vehicle suffer. Since only the section of all conceivable areas of life defined in this way is insured, the premiums are regularly calculated significantly lower than for general accident insurance.

Insurance companies offer passenger accident insurance mainly as a flat-rate system; It is also possible to take out insurance based on the number of seats or people.

With the all-inclusive system, all authorized occupants are insured with the all-inclusive; In the event of a claim, each insured occupant will be charged a partial amount of the sum insured in the insurance contract, corresponding to the number of insured persons. Example: an accident with a five occupants of occupied cars and is the contractually agreed sum insured 100,000 €, every passenger is insured for € 20,000. In order to counteract the risk of insufficient insurance coverage, the insurance conditions for motor vehicle accident insurance of many insurance companies provide that the sum insured is increased by 50 percent if there is more than one insured person.

The Stiftung Warentest assesses the conclusion of a passenger accident insurance as superfluous, since the risks that are covered by a passenger accident insurance would already be covered by other insurance (e.g. the motor vehicle liability insurance ). This is also the opinion of the consumer protection organization Bund der Insured .

Occupant accident insurance overlaps with other forms of insurance in terms of coverage. In the event of an accident, the perpetrator's liability insurance pays the injured occupants. Health insurance bears the costs of medical treatment. In addition, after 43 days, employees continue to pay their wages on a pro-rata basis. In the first six weeks, the employer has to pay for any loss of earnings as part of the continued payment of wages. If a longer period of incapacity for work occurs, the statutory pension insurance as well as existing accident insurance or occupational disability insurance cover the inmates.

For this reason, almost all accidents are already covered by other insurance. Occupant accident insurance is rarely used, for example if the accident was caused by an unavoidable event (for example an accident with an animal). In the event of an accident abroad, the passenger accident insurance pays the difference to a possibly lower payment of a foreign liability insurance. Furthermore, it occurs if a road user causes an accident, has no liability insurance and, due to lack of assets, cannot assume any payment obligations.
