Inscription from Karataş

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The inscription of Karataş north of Erciş is carved into the bare rock. It comes from the Urartian king Sarduri II.

Sarduri, son of Argišti I , reports that he created a wing for d Ḫaldi the mighty. The kings who succeed him, who are rulers after him, should not erase this inscription. "Sarduri says: Whoever erases this inscription, the god Ḫaldi, the god Teišeba , the sun god, all gods shall destroy him."

There is another inscription on the same rock. She reports that Sarduri, after henaldi had given him the rule, after he had succeeded his father as ruler, built a mighty fortress in this city in the same year, which he called the royal city of Sarduris ( md Sarduriei). In the following section he lists his titles:

  • Lord of the whole
  • Great King
  • King of the Universe (LUGAL KUR SÚ)
  • King of the land of Biainili
  • King of Kings
  • Lord of the city of Tušpa
