history

The company was founded in 1997 by Derek Hughes. The chain is owned by Red Coral Catering Ltd , based in Dublin, and currently operates 90 branches in Ireland. In addition, there are 43 franchise stores, which are mainly in Spar and BWG grocery stores, as well as 155 in-store self-service machines.

In January 2008 the Icelandic group Penninn acquired 51% of the company. In 2014 Insomnia Coffee Company opened its 90th coffeehouse in Newbridge, County Kildare .
